How Do WRCEF Fall Grants Lift Kids?

The Warrior Run Culture of Reading Team

The Warrior Run “CULTURE OF READING” Team was recently awarded a Foundation Innovation Grant ($1183) for “Who Will Get Caught Reading?!” Thank you to them for providing an attractive incentive to champion reading at WR! Co-Principals Wendy Arnold and Michael Freeborn

Kudos to Co-Principals Wendy Arnold and Michael Freeborn awarded a grant creating multiple sensory indoor and outdoor spaces at the elem. building ($4,758) to create activities and stimuli for K-6 students. WR Educators Deb Waughen and Jonathan Hall

WR EDUCATORS Deb Waughen, left, and Jonathan Hall, right, were granted funds ($2470) to help support attendance with 3 students of the WR chapter of FCCLA at the organization’s fall Disney Leadership Institute in Orlando. Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a student organization for the study of family and consumer science education. Waughen and Hall are spurring the local leadership effort for these students. Congrats to this team for their efforts!

on their fall Foundation Grant ($2226) to attend the “National Conference on Science Education” in Philadelphia hosted by the NSTA, National Science Teaching Association — an exciting professional growth opportunity.

Computer Science Education, Kristin Barr, 1st grade teacher

For Computer Science Education,
Kristin Barr, 1st grade teacher, received a fall Foundation Innovation Grant ($1500) for her “Unplugged Coding/Sphero Indi Project.” From a colleague, Mrs. Barr is developing her STEM program into a powerhouse of meaningful experiences for her students.”


Jessie Delany, Ryan Pelletier, and Theresa Bartholomew

Congrats to Jessie Delany, Ryan Pelletier, and Theresa Bartholomew
awarded a grant for students enrolled in WR’s Career & Technology Education (CTE) program on education (up to $8600). This “Dual Enrollment Tuition Scholarship” assists in tuition costs for WR CTE Education students who anticipate a teaching career.

Teacher Deb Waughen
will receive funds through her Foundation Innovation Grant ($1500) to help fulfill new Family and Consumer Science standards in her high school classrooms. Her grant will provide American Red Cross “INFANT AND CHILD CPR MANIKINS” for training in curriculum related to child development and childcare

The 9-12 English Team

The 9-12 English Team
plans to initiate “READING NIGHTS UNDER THE STARS and a READING COFFEE HOUSE” as part of their grant ($1000). With improving reading literacy a major goal of WRSD, Lindsay Dalrymple, Megan Seymore, Krysta Travelpiece, Rachael Murphy will promote reading outside the classroom.
